Collection: Kokeshi
Kokeshi are a type of traditional Japanese wooden dolls. Despite being a product that is part of the history and past of the Land of the Rising Sun, today the Kokeshi are more fashionable than ever, both for their simplicity and for their beauty and have become one of the symbols of Japan. . Made by hand, they have a simple cylindrical bust, which reproduces the traditional Japanese kimono, and a large spherical head, with a few stylized lines to define the characters of the face. A feature of Kokeshi dolls is the lack of arms and legs. They are all made up of a few simple pieces and hand painted one by one, and this is the reason why the colors and the expression of the face are slightly different even in the same model, making the Kokeshi a unique and interesting doll. Each doll has its own meaningful name and the refined design fully expresses the passion of the artists who make these unique models. The peaceful expression of the Kokeshi and the warmth of the wood create an atmosphere of perfect calm and relaxation. There are two types of kokeshi dolls: the traditional kokeshi and the creative kokeshi, the latter are the ones that we present and developed during the Second World War, they differ from the traditional ones both for the bust, much more rounded, and for the use of more modern colors and patterns. In addition to being beautiful ornaments for homes, they are considered a good omen against bad luck and considered a fine collector's item to give to very special people. All dolls are made of wood and made in Japan.
